Allow me to introduce myself: Osric O’Malley, botanist by trade, halfling by birth, and plane-hopper by sheer curiosity. I’ve spent my life trekking through sun-dappled groves, frostbitten marshes, and the floating orchid fields of the Seventh Sky Sanctuary, all in pursuit of one thing: scent.
You see, scent tells a story. It’s the first whisper of a place before you see its face. And now, I’ve taken up the noble task of bottling that magic—not in potions, but in candles. Thus was born my humble endeavor: BOTANY. A candle collection for those who seek wonder in the natural world, whether from the safety of their hearth or the depths of a dungeon.
Why BOTANY?
I’ve always believed that there’s something about a scent that captures a place more vividly than ink or paint ever could. A fragrance can summon the memory of wind in your hair, dew on your fingertips, and sunlight dappled across mossy stones. It’s magic of the most subtle kind, no incantations required.
But it’s also a matter of preservation. So many of these incredible plants live in remote or vanishing biomes. With BOTANY, I hope to spark a bit of curiosity, maybe even reverence, for the wild beauty around us, both in this realm and others.
Each candle is hand-poured using pure ingredients and 100% soy wax, expertly designed to let the scent shine. No alchemical frills or illusion magic, just pure plant essence, as honest and true as a well-drawn map.
The First Three Discoveries
Flowering Wisteria
Discovered in: Cathpasia, The High City
Wisteria—ah, what a flirtatious vine! It tumbles down stone like water in bloom, perfuming the air with sweet florals and whispered magic. The elves of Cathpasia train these vines in cascading terraces that catch the sunrise just so. I lit a candle while sketching my notes and found myself positively entranced. One moment I was on a damp outcrop, and the next (I swear to the stars) I was floating.
Scent profile: Delicate, floral, lightly sweet, with hints of enchanted dusk.
Fiddlehead Fern
Foraged from: The Verdant Forests of Honeyswell
Now this one took some careful sniffing. Fiddlehead ferns are notoriously shy, curling into themselves like a secret. But beneath the frost-kissed canopy of Honeyswell, I caught their scent: earthy, crisp, and green as a fresh map scroll. The fragrance is subtle, almost reflective. A quiet forest in early spring. A journal page yet unmarked.
Scent profile: Clean, verdant, slightly woodsy, with a brisk bite of morning air.
Bergamot Citron
Plucked from: The Lush Jungles of Makal
Oh-ho, now we’re talking! If Flowering Wisteria is a lullaby, and Fiddlehead Fern a quiet hum, then Bergamot Citron is a bright and buzzing morning anthem. I found the grove by accident, lured by the cheerful zings of citrus on the breeze. I picked a fruit the size of my head and promptly fell out of a tree. Worth it. Every time I light this one, my heart does a little skip-hop.
Scent profile: Zesty citrus, bright bergamot, a twist of mischief and sunshine.
The Journey Continues
These are but my first discoveries, and they won’t be around for long! Each ingredient was a rare find on its own, and a bag of holding can only hold so much, after all. But worry not, my friends; more specimens await, from the windswept highlands of Shelligan to the treacherous crags on the isle of Kistar. I shall probably need to enlist the help of a few plucky adventurers along the way. If you know of any brave travelers, send them my way!
