From Concept to Candle Label: The Art of Feast

We believe that every candle tells a story, and with the newest Feast collection, that story unfolds across sunlit gardens, bustling workbenches, and treetop hideaways. Each scent is paired with a lovingly illustrated label that brings Honeyswell’s residents to life: a sturdy badger with a fondness for lemonade, a gentle rabbit surrounded by harvest greens, and a sprightly magpie on the hunt for something sweet. These characters don’t just accompany the fragrances—they are the fragrances, captured in ink, color, and personality thanks, as always, to Anna Lark.

Join us as we take a closer look at the art behind the Feast, and the little moments that make this collection something truly special.

Our cast of characters

Foreman Hugh

By trade, Foreman Hugh is all stone and structure. A seasoned stonemason and the quiet backbone of Honeyswell’s construction efforts, this badger isn’t one to seek the spotlight… unless it’s the late afternoon sun glinting off his glass of famous lavender lemonade.

In the concepts, Anna Lark brought Foreman Hugh to life, starting with a kindly looking badger with wise eyes. The pince-nez glasses on his striped nose give the impression that this badger spends hours focused on his craft, straining his eyes to get every last detail just right.

Scout Swiftwing

Swiftwing rarely stays in one place for long. A nimble magpie with a sharp eye and a sharper wit, she flits from tree to rooftop, always mid-story, mid-laugh, or mid-snack. Her favorite? Flaky scones bursting with fresh summer berries, pilfered from window sills or baked with affection by friends who know her habits.

Anna Lark has depicted her bright-eyed and confident, her wings outstretched as she regales her company with a quick story. We see another scout mid-flight, his backpack full of supplies (and scones) on display.

Farmer Sibyl

Farmer Sibyl tends her garden with the kind of gentle precision that comes from generations of experience. A lifelong resident of Honeyswell, Sibyl knows just when to harvest the snap peas, which herbs keep best in the shade, and how to coax reluctant lettuces into lush fullness.

In the concept art, we see the full retinue of diligent rabbit farmers, Sibyl included. Perky whiskers and ears show us that these vegetarians are as spirited as they are clever. These are good, hardworking folk—their produce is the envy of the county.

The first scenes of Honeyswell

Badgers at work

In the label sketches, Hugh himself is shown ambling up to the table with an armful of bright, sun-warmed lemons, his leathery apron dusted with stone. One of his fellow masons is already at the table, cheerfully juicing the bounty into a wooden bowl, while another badger stands behind, paws wrapped around a cold glass, savoring the first sip. The whole scene hums with camaraderie, citrus, and the soft, herbal hush of lavender on the breeze—a refreshment fit for even the hardest-working paws in Honeyswell.

Magpies on the move

Scout Swiftwing’s Wildberry Scones captures the moment adventure gives way to indulgence. In the sketches, we glimpse the discovery: Swiftwing and her unflappable team of scouts aloft in the treetops, having stumbled upon a hidden berry patch bursting with ripe summer treasure. Beaks stained and feathers tousled, they chirp excitedly over their find, already dreaming of the scones they’ll bake when they return to their nests. The scent itself is a celebration of their spoils: tart raspberry, plump blueberry, and warm vanilla glaze, all wrapped in flaky, golden delight.

Rabbits with green thumbs

Farmer Sibyl’s Summer Salad is the scent of shared wisdom, sun-warmed soil, and the joy of a harvest well-tended. In the sketches, three rabbit heads bend close together, deep in discussion over ripeness, rainfall, and which rows need thinning. Farmer Sibyl shares a picnic blanket with a fellow gardener, the fruits and vegetables of their labor in bountiful heaps beside them. We see the summer salad taking shape before our eyes, Sibyl’s bowl overflowing with fresh greens, chopped veggies, and juicy watermelon.

The final labels come together

Foreman Hugh’s Lavender Lemonade

In the final render of Foreman Hugh’s Lavender Lemonade label, everything bursts to life in bold, sunlit color. The lemons gleam a cheerful golden yellow and the bundles of lavender are bright against the greens and browns of the masons’ uniforms. Each badger has their own distinct personality etched into their face: Hugh’s proud determination as he lugs the fruit, the juicing badger’s focused joy, and the satisfied squint of the third as they savor the lemonade’s first sip.

Scout Swiftwing’s Wildberry Scones

The final art for Scout Swiftwing’s Wildberry Scones label practically crackles with energy. The scouts have swooped in just in time for tea, a plate of berry scones and a pot of tea ready for the enjoying. We see that the magpies are burdened with backpacks full of berries for their next batch of pastries—looks like they might need to get started on those sooner rather than later!

Farmer Sybil’s Summer Salad

The final artwork for Farmer Sibyl’s Summer Salad is perfectly fitting for a candle celebrating the summer harvest. Sybil and her compatriots have gathered for an impromptu picnic, vine-ripened cucumbers and tomatoes still warm from the midday sun. In the distance, we see more fields bursting with produce and the promise of more harvests and summer feasts just like this one.

The Feast begins

Through rich color, expressive characters, and cozy, carefully-crafted scenes, each label invites you into a moment of Honeyswell life. You can almost hear the crunch of fresh-picked lettuce, feel the warmth of the sun on stone, and taste the berries still clinging to the vine. Whether you find yourself sipping with Foreman Hugh, lounging with Farmer Sibyl, or foraging with Scout Swiftwing, these soy wax candles offer more than fragrance—they offer company, character, and a place at the summer table.
