10 Dungeons & Dragons Inspired Cocktails and Beverages

Whether your party prefers ale, elixirs, or arcane cocktails, these 10 drinks bring a touch of tavern magic to any campaign—complete with non-alcoholic versions for adventurers who prefer to keep their wits about them.

1. Mulled Wine of the Winter Realms

A timeless tavern favorite that warms even the frostiest adventurer. Perfect for cold-weather campaigns or long winter one-shots.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle dry red wine (Merlot, Zinfandel, or Malbec are recommended)

  • ¼ cup brandy (optional)

  • 1 orange, sliced

  • 2 tbsp honey or sugar

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 2 star anise

  • A pinch of nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large pot.

  2. Heat gently (don’t boil!) for 20–30 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Strain and serve in mugs or wooden tankards.

Non-Alcoholic Variant:
Swap wine and brandy for cranberry juice and orange juice. Still cozy, still delightful.

2. Tavernkeeper’s Mead

Mead is the quintessential fantasy drink—you gotta have it. It’s the liquid gold that loosens lips and warms the belly of many an adventurer.

How to serve it:
Buy your favorite bottle of mead from a local brewer (dry, sweet, or spiced). Chill slightly and serve in tankards, stoneware mugs, or horn cups.

Optional Upgrade:
Warm it with a cinnamon stick, orange peel, and drizzle of honey for a “Heated Honey Brew.”

Non-Alcoholic Variant:
Use honey syrup (2 parts honey to 1 part hot water) mixed with sparkling apple cider and a squeeze of lemon.

Keep the tavern theme going with our classic Blackhound Tavern candle! This comforting, smoky candle has notes of whisky and firewood, perfect for creating that tavern ambience.

  • ½ oz blue curaçao

  • ½ oz lemon juice

  • ½ oz lavender syrup (or simple syrup + drop of lavender extract)

  • Splash of soda water

Instructions:
Shake with ice and strain into a small glass. The blue curaçao and lavender syrup create a striking violet hue once mixed. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel or an edible flower.

Potion of Healing

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz vodka

  • ½ oz grenadine

  • 1 oz grapefruit or blood orange juice

  • ½ oz rosemary syrup (or muddle fresh rosemary in simple syrup)

  • Splash of soda water

Instructions:
Shake and strain into a small glass over ice. The grenadine creates that glowing red look—like liquid vitality. Garnish with a small sprig of rosemary or an orange twist.

Non-Alcoholic Version:
Use sparkling blood orange soda with a drizzle of grenadine and fresh rosemary.

Potion of Stamina

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz vodka

  • ¼ oz green melon liqueur (Midori, or use a splash of kiwi syrup for NA)

  • Dash of black pepper (optional, for flavor—not color!)
